Released just five months after Red Dead Redemption on October 26, 2010, Undead Nightmare is this classic game’s first and only expansion. Many call Undead Nightmare one of the best expansions ever made, a prime example of DLC and how it should be handled. It’s hard to argue with that when a product of this high quality is sold for just $10. Even if you do not like zombie-themed games, We bet you will love playing Undead Nightmare.

Plot and Premise

The plot is a mixture of humor and self-parody. While John Marston is trying to rebuild the farm and regain his family’s trust after many months apart, he waits for whatever life brings. He is a man who is always ready for anything, almost anything. The dogs barked hysterically, and the wolf howled for a long time, making John feel that something was wrong. While John and Abigail were sleeping soundly, something unusual suddenly happened.

Unfortunately, Night of the Living Dead had not yet been invented, so the family was utterly unaware of zombies and how they worked. They think it’s just a fever. John tied the couple up and locked them in the house and then began his adventure to find a doctor to find out what was going on.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The main goal is to eliminate the zombie herd and save the people in this God-forsaken land. Many open-world activities remain the same from the original version; some are changed to fit the zombie theme, while all minigames have been completely removed.

This DLC welcomes back familiar faces from the main Red Dead Redemption storyline. Besides, the Red Dead Redemption map has been reused for Undead Nightmare. You can also get weapons exclusive to Undead Nightmare, along with the standard weapons. So stay alert, play the game, and you will have plenty of weapons to fight the undead in Undead Nightmare. Whatever you do, aim for their head and shoot accurately.

Weapons and Outfits

This DLC also features unlockable outfits similar to the original Red Dead Redemption. You can find and tame the four horses of the apocalypse: War, pestilence, famine, and death. You can complete several challenges, such as hunting the legendary Chupacabra and eventually taming it, as well as the mythical unicorn. All wildlife has also been redesigned to match the new spooky atmosphere. Instead of crows and vultures, we have giant, screaming bats. Cancer bears roam the land: zombie pumas and evil black dogs. Soul horses representing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse can be found and tamed, although sometimes these horses disappear, and I don’t know why.

Side Missions and Activities

Undead Nightmare includes Sasquatch side missions to find missing people, liberate towns and settlements throughout the states and Mexico, and clear out cemeteries. You also can travel fast from safe locations after successfully liberating towns and settlements.

Atmosphere and Music

Music is a strong point of the game: sound effects and atmosphere of the world of Undead Nightmare. Rockstar did a great job with this game, taking Red Dead Redemption’s map, changing it a bit, and turning it into an excellent zombie-themed survival game.

Overall Impressions
